Mercenary |
 |
This is just a short guide to becoming a mercenary. If you are serious about this, I recommend taking advantage of the EVE Online bots and exploits available at Strategy Freaks.
A mercenary is a hired gun, usually paid for by large corporations who want something done without their name being all over it. A mercenary could also be a hired guard for miners, extra hands in a full scale war, an escort through low sec areas or any number of other things.
There are mercenary corporations, and I highly recommend that you join one early on if you chose this track, as the one thing you need more than anything else as a merc is contacts. You can not work and make ISK if you do not know who needs something done. While you are waiting for a good mercenary corporation to join, or while you are still too weak to help them much, watch the mission boards for player missions you can carry out.
This can help your reputation along as well as grab you some decent ISK. Be wary of courier missions ending in low sec areas - they may actually be an ambush set up by a crafty pirate. In your early days as a mercenary, you may want to spend most of your time running agent missions instead, just to avoid this kind of newbie killing.
To be a good mercenary you have to have two main rules: 1) never ask questions about the reasons for a job you are asked to do and 2) always fulfill your contracts. If you do this you will gain a good reputation with your corporation and those who would hire you, and soon you will be able to up your prices because people ask specifically for your services.
