Pirate

This is just a short guide to pirating. If you are serious about this, I recommend taking advantage of the EVE Online bots and exploits available at Strategy Freaks.

The pirate is the first choice of most PvPers who are new to EVE.  The idea of preying on other players for your living appeals to the "bad boy" image many people have of themselves, and who can really say that they never wanted to be a pirate growing up? Ah, but there is a large difference between true fearsome pirates and newbies who throw themselves into the maw of other ships.

To be a successful pirate, you first must choose another profession.  That sounds very counter-intuitive, but if you start out in your newbie ship, attempting to take out CONCORD or anything that would venture into low sec space, you will only lose ships, ISK and probably clones as well.

Start out with agent missions, build your ship without gaining a low sec rating, and chose either another way of making money, or a great player corporation who will pay you and support you as you grow in power.  If your dream is to fly solo when you get strong enough, just pick a corporation now with lots of ISK and a generous nature (which you should not take advantage of to start with, or you will never get stronger).

If, on the other hand, flying with a band of pirates sounds like your idea of fun, there are plenty of pirate corporations looking to take on new members. Be careful when choosing a pirate corporation - big ones are harder to get into and may have stricter rules, but many little new ones will do you more harm than good as you try to get started. Always check out the CEO to see if his style is going to match yours, and look at the corporation stats to get an idea of the focus, how big they are, etc.

And, you ask, how do you actually be a pirate? Well, you do exactly what pirates used to do a set ambushes, extract ISK from people who want to live, hang out in dangerous areas, fight each other, sometimes war with other pirate corporations and mostly, you kill other players and take their stuff.  Many pirate hang out around gates, scanning likely target and waiting for just the right ship to come through.

Others will go a treasure seeking and when they hear about a juicy trade route or a player who is just a little bit careless.  Get connected with the pirate network even if it is just to listen for tips.  Just watch out sometimes a tip is really an ambush.  After all, you are dealing with pirates.
