Instas |

This article provides a general introduction to the topic and covers the basics. If you are looking for more advanced strategies and hints, please take a look at the EVE Online Guide offered by Killer Guides.
Instas are one way EVE players have learned to use bookmarks to their advantage. EVE only allows you to warp to within 15km of an object or bookmark (though there are rumors of a warp to 0 in an upcoming patch), which means you still have to go quite a ways to get to a safe dock or stargate, which is prime opportunity for pirates.
Of course you'll want to generally have a faster ship to get around this some, but sometimes you'll be flying a mining ship or something equally slow - and something which is also a huge target. Instas allow you to warp from a specific location directly on top of the object you need to go to.
All you do is warp from the place you plan to warp from, say an asteroid field, to the place you want to go, for example a stargate. Instead of approaching the gate, keep flying until you are 15km past the gate, without changing direction. Bookmark this location.
Now the next time you warp from the asteroid field, warp to within 15km of the bookmark, and you should land right on the gate. This will only work when you are warping from the same location, or at least the same direction as that location. (If you try to Insta from the wrong direction, you'll end up 30km away from the gate!) You may need to tweak the location a little bit, but you'll find that Instas are well worth the extra effort, especially in low sec areas. |
